Files in this package: --------------------- PR570.EXE - menu-driven printer setup utility for the Epson LQ570 README.TXT - this file; short info on history and usage History: ------- 01-28-93 Ver. 0.98 Beta version; fully functional. 02-02-93 Ver. 1.00 Minor changes in the menu help text 01-22-94 Ver. 1.10 New options for selecting LPT1, LPT2 or LPT3 01-23-94 Ver. 1.11 more precise printer checking; longer warning time ALT-R option added Future Updates: -------------- * To restore video mode on exit (almost done now) * Option for the wide-carriage printer (if anyone would e-mail me the data for characters-per-line in every available fontsize, then I would update the program in a week!) * To restore screen on exit (the general video library is in the process of creation now). Purpose: ------- The program PR570.EXE (further referred to as 'printer utility') is written to initialize the Epson LQ570 (narrow carriage) dot-matrix printer from DOS before printing ASCII files. With lot of options which cannot be set from the front panel of the LQ570, this printer utility makes it easy to use some of the advanced features of the LQ570, like turning ON/OFF bidirectional printing, setting the margins, setting the paperlength, etc. The printer utility assumes the default values of the narrow-carriage factory setup LQ570. The printer utility when it is invoked switches to the CO80 video mode (the standard old-fashioned PC mode) and remains in that mode after exit. Future updates will correct this inconvinience. The printer utility is written in Borland C/C++ 3.1 Usage: ----- Copy the printer utility executable in one of the directories included in your PATH environment, then invoke it as 'PR570'. Options available from the program: * ALT-1 select printer LPT1 (hold down ALT key and press 1) Legal choices: LPT1, LPT2 and LPT3 * ALT-R reset the routine to startup (default) values NOTE: Printer is not reset, i.e. no control codes are sent out!
